Now it’s Thursday already, we’re nearing the end of week one and life has settled into a pleasant routine. Mornings we get up early and have coffee and fruit, then I go meet Clara on the road and we come back here for Spanish lessons. I’ve been meaning to take a photo of maestra Clara, but I so quickly get caught up in the conversation and in the struggle to find words to express my thoughts, that so far I haven’t remembered to photograph her. I do have a photo of one of her lessons, for what that’s worth. It may not look like fun to other folks but I get a kick out of learning the language.

Afternoons we’ve been going to town to buy a few things for supper and to practice speaking with people other than our teacher. Mostly we get lost, wander around the market and smile at people. People here are kind and friendly but distant. I like them. They seem to have an inherent pride.
Here are a few photos from Santiago Atitlan.
